Late Night Check In..

The most common cause of death in puppies is getting too cold or smothered by their mama. This risk dramatically decreases by the time the puppy is two-weeks old. The first two weeks for me are stressful! We keep a puppy heating pad in their kennel to maintain a constant temperature and I check on them every two hours: 1- head count, to be sure they are all eating, giving the ones that aren't gaining weight as fast to have some one on one time with Ashlie; 2-to straighten the blankets out to help discourage them from crawling down into the folds. 3- Let Ash out for a drink/food and a potty break.. (she eats alot trying to feed these 6 pups!). So far we have never lost a puppy and pray we NEVER do!!

This is how I found her at my 2:00 a.m. check in last night! So cute & snuggled up to her babies. I decided to leave my camera more accessible so I can snag some of these Kodak moments..

This is tonight's picture.. That is our mama's boy Hudson all snuggled up to her chin. At one point she had her paw resting over him, but she moved when she saw me go for the camera.. lol..
I admire her attention, love and concern for her puppies. Ashlie is the best mama!

3 Days Old..

We visited the Vet today! All 6 puppies got a clean bill of health! Tails were docked and dew claws removed. The puppies are a little fussy this afternoon and weren't the best at holding still for their pictures. But I don't blame them, they had a traumatic day and missed their mama!

Our puppies finally have names :)

Introducing: Coco Chanel
Chanel is our smallest baby. She has phantom markings like her mama and is just darling! We are still waiting for her nose to fill in. I'm thinking she will be a liver pepper in color, but we will know in a few more days for sure.

 Introducing: Humphrey & Bogart
Humphrey looks like he will be white with the standard white schnauzer markings
(black nose & pads). We will know once his nose fills in!
Bogart is identical in color and weight! Impossible to tell them apart.. I'm calling them the twins right now. I think Bogart's nose will come in brown, and expect him to be a white chocolate in color like his papa!

Introducing: Hudson
Hudson is liver pepper in color. His nose is partially filled in - He too has striking phantom markings with his little paws dipped in white. Such a cutie!

Introducing: Ashton
Ashton looks as though he too will be white chocolate in color. Ashton has a beautiful champagne hue to his coat.

and last, but definately not least..

Introducing: Pearl
Pearl is a gorgeous white little female. Her nose is filling in black so she will be the typical white schnauzer.

Itty Bitty Babies!!

They came really early Sunday morning! I missed the whole delivery. At 4:00 a.m. my husband said he thought he heard a puppy cry, so I jumped up, ran into the kitchen and expecting her to just be starting, counted five little pups.. But as Ashlie readjusted herself into a more comfortable position to nurse, I noticed another little white pup, so SIX puppies total! Crazy! Poor girl did it all alone.. She is the BEST mama..
 DOG PILE!! Literally.. :)
We have 4 Boys & 2 Girls.  Still deciding on names..
1- Liver Pepper Male
3- White Male
1- White Female
1-Salt & Pepper Female
(possible liver pepper, we'll be able to tell when her nose color comes in)
Let the Laundry Begin!!

Barefoot & Pregnant..

Here she is, not totally miserable, but not her playful-self! Look at that BELLY!! (sorry for the poor quality picture, I took it with my itouch..) She got her maternity cut today and we are expecting her puppies any day!!

Stealing Kisses..

Ashlie gets really spoiled by our two young'ns. She plays along with whatever they have imagined her to be. Sometimes a wolf, sometimes a super hero, sometimes she gets to dress up like Belle; But her favorite is when she gets to snuggle with her Bestie... Ash is a huge part of our family and is really more like a person than a puppy. She tends to pass this loving demeanor to her puppies.
