The most common cause of death in puppies is getting too cold or smothered by their mama. This risk dramatically decreases by the time the puppy is two-weeks old. The first two weeks for me are stressful! We keep a puppy heating pad in their kennel to maintain a constant temperature and I check on them every two hours: 1- head count, to be sure they are all eating, giving the ones that aren't gaining weight as fast to have some one on one time with Ashlie; 2-to straighten the blankets out to help discourage them from crawling down into the folds. 3- Let Ash out for a drink/food and a potty break.. (she eats alot trying to feed these 6 pups!). So far we have never lost a puppy and pray we NEVER do!!
This is how I found her at my 2:00 a.m. check in last night! So cute & snuggled up to her babies. I decided to leave my camera more accessible so I can snag some of these Kodak moments..
This is tonight's picture.. That is our mama's boy Hudson all snuggled up to her chin. At one point she had her paw resting over him, but she moved when she saw me go for the camera.. lol..
I admire her attention, love and concern for her puppies. Ashlie is the best mama!
